Deep Spirit: Am I Real?
|

How Do I Know I'm Real? Q: What if, really, there is “nobody home” inside anyone else but me? Even more frightening, how do I know I am really real? Fear not. The very fact that you experience some doubt or apprehension about your own existence, prompting you to ask, "Am I real?" demonstrates that consciousness exists.
Only a being with consciousness can wonder or doubt (or fear)—or have any experience whatsoever. That's the good news.
Now, whether you (as an egoic individual) are real—well, that's a different question. You may not be real, but the consciousness that’s “pretending” to be you most certainly is real.
The simplest answer is: Who’s asking the question? Contemplate that a few times a day, and treat yourself to a taste of transformation.
Ah! If only Descartes had been a Buddhist!
